Primary tufting cloth for stretching onto your frame
This is the working fabric you tuft through when making a rug or wall piece. It is suitable for tufting-gun and punch-needle projects and is the same type of material used in Nice Studio’s hands-on tufting work.

How to choose the right size
Choose cloth that is larger than your intended tufting area so there is enough material around every edge to stretch it securely onto the frame. Your finished design should stay inside the frame’s usable working area.
Stretching tip
Stretch the cloth evenly in every direction until the surface is firm. Check the tension again as you work and re-stretch if the cloth begins to loosen.
Primary cloth or backing fabric?
Primary tufting cloth is the fabric you tuft through at the beginning of the project. Backing fabric is added after tufting to cover and finish the back of the piece.
