A beginner-friendly tufting workshop in Hamilton, New Zealand
Make your own tufted rug or wall piece with step-by-step guidance from Nice Studio. No previous tufting experience is needed; we provide the equipment, materials and hands-on help.
What you’ll make
Create one tufted piece on the frame size you select. Choose from XS 30 × 30cm, Small 40 × 40cm, Medium 60 × 60cm or Large 90 × 90cm.
What’s included
- A 20-minute introduction to using the tufting gun
- Help transferring your design by freehand drawing or projector tracing
- Use of the tufting gun, frame and workshop equipment
- Primary cloth and yarn from the current studio colour range
- Guidance while you tuft your piece
- Backing and final tidy-up completed by Nice Studio after the session
How it works
- Choose the number of participants and one frame size per person.
- Bring a design idea, or ask us for guidance before your session.
- Learn how to handle the tufting gun safely and transfer your artwork.
- Tuft your piece with support from the Nice Studio team.
- Leave the rug with us for backing and finishing.
Workshop time
The total time depends on your frame size, design and pace. Each session includes a one-hour buffer. Overtime is currently charged at $30 per 30 minutes per person, so contact us before booking if you need help choosing a realistic project.

Nice Studio, Hamilton, New Zealand. Contact us before making travel plans if you need current arrival, parking or accessibility information.
After the workshop
Your finished piece is usually ready for pickup or delivery within 1–3 business days. Courier delivery is available for an additional fee.
Age and group arrangements
The booking selector supports one to four participants. Please contact Nice Studio before booking for anyone under 12 or for a group larger than four so the current supervision and session arrangements can be confirmed.
Good to know
- One person works on each frame; frames are not shared.
- Simple designs with clear shapes are usually easier for a first workshop.
- Frame size, design detail and tufting pace all affect the session length.

Ying is an amazing teacher. We had a wonderful experience and she made sure we made wonderful rugs for our first time.
My friend and I had a great time tufting with Nice Studio. They took time to tutor us how to use the tools and helped picking a pattern that suits our capability as well as our creative desire. Would highly recommend doing tufting with them!
I absolutely loved hanging out with Ying (and Max); a more patient and positive teacher I can’t recall. I didn’t feel deflated by making mistakes and Ying helped me to relax and understand the process again if she saw my lines straying. I had the best fun and came away so proud of myself for having tried something new! I’m super stoked with how my piece came out and will definitely be making plans to go back for a more ambitious design. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and would recommend others give it a go.
